Admission and Lottery Process

Harambee Institute of Science and Technology Charter School (HISTCS) is one of the first and oldest charter schools in Pennsylvania.  It is a vibrant K-8 school serving over 500 students from Philadelphia and the surrounding area.  Our mission is to produce students who excel academically, demonstrate high moral character, and possess a strong sense of personal and cultural identity.  At HISTCS, students confidently navigate the STEAM disciplines because science, technology, engineering, math and the arts are interwoven in the academic program grades K-8.


HISTCS is a K-8 charter school serving over 500 students residing in Philadelphia and the surrounding area.  As a public school, HISTCS is open to all Pennsylvania students, with priority given to Philadelphia residents and siblings of current HISTCS students.

HISTCS accepts applications for all grades.  Incoming kindergarten students must be five years old by September 1 of the year they start kindergarten.
