    Jambo Harambee Family!
We have just finished celebrating the Kwanzaa holiday (Dec 26-Jan1) and I hope you had time to share Kwanzaa and the Nguzo Saba (seven principles) with your loved ones. Kwanzaa (meaning first fruits) is an African-American cultural holiday founded 50 years ago that brings us together to celebrate our common culture and our African heritage.

Kwanzaa and the beginning of a new year are an excellent time for us to reflect on the fact that the spirit and principles of Kwanzaa are the same spirit and principles on which Harambee Institute of Science and Technology Charter School was founded.

  • Stay Home When You Are SickStay home when you are sick. Avoid work, school and errands when you are sick. This will help prevent others from catching your illness. Also, stay away from people that are sick.
Cover Your Nose and MouthCover your nose and mouth with a tissue when you cough or sneeze, then throw it away. If a tissue is not available, cover your nose and mouth with your sleeve, not your hand.

Harambee Grows Farm to School with Seed Change

This year, our students will have more time in the garden along with farm field trips, thanks to a new initiative from the National farm to School Network. Harambee has been selected to participate in Seed Change and awarded a 5,000 mini grant funded by the Walmart Foundation to increase our farm to school activities.

Our #Seed Change mini grant will kick off farm to school activities with a "Harambee Farmer's Market", September 29th (Back to School Night). We are very excited to share our news. We hope to see you all at our healthy, happy, Farmer's Market.
